Masterclass

From August 2nd to August 9th, 2026

The masterclass, organised by Cévennes Lyriques, aims to allow young professional and pre-professional singers to come and improve all aspects of operatic art with the greatest singers and teachers of today.

Kevin Short

American bass-baritone Kevin Short enjoys great renown thanks to an international career in companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, the Opéra Comique, the Bregenzer Festspiele, the Swedish Royal Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Orchestra and the Boston Symphony… to name just a few of the many opera companies and orchestras with which he has performed.

Kevin is also an esteemed vocal professor at the Juilliard School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the University of Maryland.

Terry Bickham

Terry Bickham's stage experience fueled his passion for training young professionals. His former students have gone on to prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, Indiana University, and the University of Maryland. Many students perform professionally with companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, the Opera Theater of St. Louis, the "Marilyn Horne: The Song Continues" masterclass series at Carnegie Hall, the Annapolis Opera, the Knoxville Opera, the New York Lyric Opera, Disney Cruise Lines, and Creativiva Entertainment.

Kira Parfeevets

Originally from Russia, Kira Parfeevets is a pianist and vocal coach with an international career. She divides her time between opera productions, language coaching, and recitals.
She has worked alongside the greatest conductors: M. Plasson, K. Mazur, A. Zedda, MW Chung, P. Steinberg, E. Pido, Y. Sado, A. Altinoglu, R. Rizzi-Brignoli, J. Lopez-Cobos, G. Noseda, G. Prêtre among others.
Working with young singers also plays an important role in her career. She offers Master Classes all over the world.

Julien Benichou

Artistic Director and Chef

 

 

General and Artistic Director of the Washington Opera Society, Julien Benichou has received numerous accolades for his work, including from the New York City Ballet, the Annapolis Symphony, the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, and the Baltimore Concert Opera. He conducts with major orchestras in France and the United States.

Karen Kapferer

Administrative Director and Assistant Chef

A choir and orchestra conductor, Karen Kapferer leads numerous ensembles in France and abroad. She is the founder and director of the Akarena Voice Academy in Alès. Artistic director of the Women and Music Festival, she received first prize in the gender equality competition in 2022.

The program

Arrival and welcome on Sunday, August 2nd.

Classes from Monday, August 3rd to Saturday, August 8th, and concert on Sunday, August 9th.

For each trainee:

  • 7 singing lessons

  • 3 coaching sessions with Kira Parfeevets.

  • One concert with piano and one concert with instrumental ensemble

  • 1 French language lesson per day (1 hour in a group)

  • Individual coaching in French and Italian diction

The place

Trainees will be accommodated in single or shared rooms at the CROP in Saint Hippolyte du Fort. This legendary site, built at the end of the 19th century, is equipped with all modern comforts. Surrounded by a large park, it offers a peaceful and unique setting.

Students will have access to an air-conditioned auditorium and several classrooms for coaching, diction, and piano accompaniment sessions.

Meals

Meals are included in the full and half-board rates. They will be prepared by French chefs using local ingredients. The menu will feature varied, balanced dishes with Mediterranean flavors.
